Clinical Information
Chromosome analysis on samples suspected of harboring a hematologic disorder. Bone marrow is the preferred sample type in most hematologic conditions because it more accurately reflects what occurs in vivo.

Specimen Requirements

•Bone Marrow Aspirate: 5 mL, NaHep preferred (EDTA accepted)

•Bone Marrow Core: 5mm in ≥ 4 mL tissue culture, transport media (RPMI using 10 mL sterile transport tube  


Specimen Stability

•Bone Marrow Aspirate: 72 hours

•Bone Marrow Core: 72 hours


Storage Requirements

•Bone Marrow Aspirate: 2°C to 25°C

•Bone Marrow Core: 15°C to 25°C

•Fixed Cytogenetically Prepared Cells: -28°C to -15°C


Shipping Recommendations

AMBIENT, Use a refrigerated (NOT FROZEN) gel pack in the shipment to protect from extreme temperatures. Separate gel pack from specimen. Do not freeze.

 


Specimen Rejection Criteria

Clotted specimen; Specimen exposed to extreme temperature; Anticoagulant toxic to cells; Insufficient number of cells
