Clinical Information
Peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) processing involves the isolation of mononuclear cells, including lymphocytes and monocytes, from whole blood through density gradient centrifugation. This process is used to assess immune responses, biomarker identification, and drug efficacy.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Requirements
Whole blood collected in NaHep, EDTA, or LiHep (dependent on protocol).
Specimen Stability
Best results achieved if processing begins within 4 hours of blood collection.
Storage Requirements
Store at room temperature prior to PBMC isolation. Isolated PBMCs stored in liquid nitrogen long term.
Shipping Conditions
Ambient
Shipping Recommendations
AMBIENT, Use a refrigerated (NOT FROZEN) gel pack in the shipment to protect from extreme temperatures. Separate gel pack from specimen.
Specimen Rejection Criteria
Clotted specimens; whole blood collected in the wrong anti-coagulant; hemolyzed or clotted specimens
